MAYDAY!

Can’t wait until the wedding to celebrate?

Neither can we!  We’re so excited, we’re hitting the panic button!

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY!

On Saturday May 1st, 2010, we’re having a Jack & Jill Honeymoon Fundraiser here in Toronto… and raising money for a village school in Mexico.

We also saw this as a way to celebrate our pending nuptials with our community prior to formally celebrating with our close friends and family in June.  We hope that you can join us or be involved in whatever way you can as we’ve got so much great stuff planned!

From food & liquid refreshments to games & prizes to music, dancing & interactive art.

All decorated in a sophisticated carnival midway theme… with LOTS of surprises!!!

All we need is a crowd of fun people (that’s where you & your friends come in)…

SPREAD THE WORD!!

Mark May 1st on your calendars ~ All are welcome – feel free to bring all your friends!

Check out our Facebook event page or click to Let us know you’re coming!

The fundraiser is benefiting a small village in the southern Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, where we will be honeymooning!

Below is some more info about the village school, the eco-resort where we will be staying & the party on May 1st.

THE SCHOOL

Kindergarten Class Room
Grade One Class Room

The school is just outside Mahahual. The area is known as KM 55 . The population is about 600 and the needs are many. There is no electricity there and only a small school. At this time, 27 children are crammed into one room for kindergarten and 15 in the only other room for grade 1. At the present time, the existing school doesn’t even have a desk for the teacher!  After grade 1, some of  the children don’t continue to go to school as Mahahual’s school is too far for them to walk.   We have partnered up with the owners of the eco-resort Carol & Alan, who are working closely with the parents of 55 to build a new classroom and help collect basic school supplies for the children and teachers.

Many of these families live in this area as they lost their homes after the Hurricane Dean in 2007.

So let us know if you would like to help in anyway… with the fundraiser event or otherwise with this school project.

The only way to make a difference… is to make a difference!!

THE ECO-RESORT

Instead of a typical honeymoon at a huge commercial resort, we have chosen to continue the the green theme of our wedding and are going to an eco-resort in Mexico – called BALAMKU (means home of the jaguar) – on the Costa Maya, 5.7km south of a little fishing village called Mahahual, which is situated in the southern end of the Yucatan Peninsula.

For all the details visit balamku.com
